5.9 Battery replacement

During operation a check must be made from time to time of whet her the battery needs to
be replaced. The battery warning "B" in the "Status" field of the display ( → 2.2.1) is used
for this as well as the remaining battery life in the service list ( → 3.9: Bat.R).
F
The displayed remaining service life applies to the specified standard operating
application (→ B-2). The remaining service life is reduced correspondingly quicker due
to changes of the measurement cycle, reading of the values or continuous active
display.
F
The battery life with two batteries in the standard operating mode ( →B-2) is at leas 5
years. The battery life may be reduced in other operating modes. Further d etails are
given in → 3.9: Bat.R and Bat.C
F
Battery replacement can be carried out without the presence of a calibration official,
because the housing itself is not sealed.
F
During battery replacement at least two batteries should always remain connected.
Before the old batteries are removed, the new batteries must be connected. A total of
four plugs are provided for this.
F
EK260 measurements may be lost due to careless procedures. All the set parameters,
along with the once-daily date, time and counter readings are saved in a non-volatile
memory (EEPROM) and automatically recalled when required.
F
As an additional backup, all data should be saved in the non-volatile memory
(EEPROM) directly before battery replacement (→ 3.9, "Save"). If, due to an operating
fault during battery replacement, data is lost, the EK260 automatically recalls the data
from the time it was previously saved.
F
Therefore, replacement should only be carried out by Elster GmbH Service or by
specially trained personnel.
