Spark Plug Service

1.
Clean plug area so no dirt or debris can fall into the
cylinder when the plug is removed.
WARNING
A hot exhaust system and engine can cause serious
burns. Allow engine to cool or wear protective
gloves when removing the spark plug.

Remove the spark plug cap.
3.
Remove spark plug.
4.
Inspect electrodes for wear or carbon buildup. Look for a
sharp outer edge on the electrode, with no rounding or
erosion.
5.
Clean with electrical contact cleaner or a glass bead spark
plug cleaner only. CAUTION: A wire brush or coated
abrasive should not be used.

wear or buildup

Measure gap with a wire gauge. Refer to specifications in
the following illustration for proper spark plug type and
gap. Adjust gap if necessary by carefully bending the side
electrode.
Spark Plug Gap
Gap - .024-.028" (0.6-.07 mm)
7.
If necessary, replace spark plug with proper type.
CAUTION: Severe engine damage may occur if the
incorrect spark plug is used.
8.
Apply anti-seize compound to the spark plug threads.
9.
Install spark plug and torque to specification.
Recommended Spark Plug:
NGK CR6HSA
Spark Plug Torque:
11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm)

Engine To Frame Ground

Inspect engine ground cable connection. Be sure it is clean and
tight. The ground cable runs from the engine starter motor to the
ground terminal location under the driver's seat.
