Terminology

Bridge: The bridge works in the MAS sublayer of the second
data link layer of the ISO 7-layer reference model, and it
enables the network interconnection by forwarding the MAC
frame according to the ANSI/IEEE Std802.1D 1998. The bridge
can connect the network with same or different MAC technology,
and use the destination address and source address information
in the MAC frame to implement the intelligent forwarding. When
selecting the Ethernet connection, the bridge can expand the
physical network topology structure, and isolate the subnet in
the port as the independent collision domain.
L2 switch (Ethernet switch): It is a multi-port bridge that
supports the Ethernet interface, and it enables the filtering,
learning and forwarding of the data frame by using the hardware.
The switch must enable all functions of the bridge.
Line card: Refers to the board that completes the SDH function,
L2 switching function or the ATM switching in the ZXES 8100
system, including 2.5 G SDH optical line board, 622 M optical
line board/ tributary board, 155 M optical tributary board, 2 M
E1 electrical tributary board, 10/100 M/1,000 M Ethernet
interface board, RPR processing board and ATM interface board.
Multi-STP: It is an algorithm and standard used for constructing
more than one STPs, because the single STP causes the
unnecessary VLAN congestion and broadband waste in the VLAN
environment.
HighLight: Shows a service in the word or diagram form, thus
making the users clearly analyze the service occupancy status.
Virtual Local area Network (VLAN): Refers to a division of
the workstation of the LAN active topology connected by the
bridge. Each VALN is distinguished by the VID (VLAN identifier),
and each VLAN is a subset of the original LAN connected by the
bridge.
SubNetwork Connection Protection (SNCP): If the some
faults occur to a working subnet or the performance of the
subnet is lower than the specified value, the subnet connection
will be replaced by another protected subnet connection.
