Configuring preprovisioning

Preprovisioning allows you to preconfigure offline modules, including subcards and IRF member
devices.
You can preprovision a module before installing or attaching the module to the system. The
preprovisioned settings are applied when the module comes online. If the module goes offline, the
existing preprovisioned settings are retained. You can continue to change the existing settings or
add new settings. The final settings are applied when the module comes online again.
You can also preprovision an online module. The model specified for the slot or subslot must be the
same as the model of the slot or subslot.

Enabling preprovisioning

The device automatically creates interfaces when preprovisioning is enabled for a module. The
display interface command does not display these interfaces until the module comes online.
After preprovisioning is enabled for a module, you can configure the module. For the preprovisioned
settings to survive a reboot, you must use the save command to save the settings to the next-startup
configuration file.
When you disable preprovisioning on a slot, the device removes all preprovisioned commands from
the slot, including the preprovisioned commands on the subslots.
When you disable preprovisioning on a subslot, the device removes preprovisioned commands on
the subslot.
