Port mirroring classification and implementation

Port mirroring includes local port mirroring and remote port mirroring based on whether the mirroring
source and the mirroring destination are on the same device.
Local port mirroring
In local port mirroring, the mirroring source and mirroring destination are on the same device. You can
configure local port mirroring by using the mirroring-group command or the mirror command. These
two methods are implemented in different ways:
The mirroring-group command mirrors packets at the network layer, whereas the mirror command
mirrors packets at the physical layer, which provides more packet information.
The mirroring-group command does not support mirroring on AUX, Bridge-Aggregation, cellular,
Encrypt, null, WLAN-BSS, or WLAN-Ethernet interfaces, whereas the mirror command supports
mirroring on all interfaces on a router.
Remote port mirroring
In remote port mirroring, the mirroring source and the mirroring destination are on different devices. The
source device copies mirrored packets to a remote destination device, which forwards them to the data
monitoring device. Remote port mirroring is implemented by using the mirror command and supports
mirroring on all interfaces on a router.
NOTE:
The mirror command is configured differently in voice interface view. For more information, see
