The Human Interface
Several devices may act as the "console", or primary human, or system interface for the Boot
ROM. These devices permit input and output functions between the person and the computer
system. Possible console devices are:
Output Devices
Functional output devices are listed below.
• HP 98642 (4-port, multiplexed RS-232) card with the remote bit set (with a supported
HP terminal).
Supported HP terminals are defined as those terminals supported by HP on HP-UX for
the Series 300 computers. See the section of this chapter describing Remote Human
Interface for Boot ROM requirements.
• HP 98626 card with the remote bit set (with a supported HP terminal).
• HP 98644 card with the remote bit set (with a supported HP terminal).
• System Interface Board RS-232 controller (same as HP 98644 card) with the remote bit
set (with a supported HP terminal).
Only one output device at a time will be used as the console output device, however, the
Boot ROM will initialize and clear all bit-mapped video circuits on the video boards or
video cards in the accessory slots that it finds, even if that video circuit is not chosen as
the output to the console device.
• A bit mapped video board at internal address 56000016. This includes the HP 98700 and
all of the video boards.
The Boot R01f tries to talk to devices with a primary DIO ID of 25 and a secondary
DIO ID of 1, and it expects these devices to have ID/FONT ROM information.
• An HP 98546 Compatibility Display Interface. This alpha/ graphics video card set is
similar to the HP 98204B card. Note that the Boot ROM will turn off video to this card
set just before booting an OS. It is up to the operating systern to restore video if this
card set is to be used.
• HP 98627 Color Card
Input Devices
Functional input devices are listed below.
• Rernote HP 98(i42 card with supported HP terminal.
• Rernote HP 98()26 card with supported HP terminal.
• Rernote HP 98()44 card with supported HP terminal.
• Systeln Interface Board RS-232 controller (same as 98644 card) with the remote bit set
(with a supported HP terminal).! HP-HIL, keyboard, and HP-IB electronics.
• I/O slot HP-HIL or keyboard electronics. The only version of this hardware is the key-
board electronics in the HP 98700 and 98720 Display Controller.
