Follow steps below to replace or remove the processor.
1.
Refer to steps 1 to 7 in Chapter 2 (1.3 Overview of Installation and Removal) for preparations.
2.
Locate the processor you are going to remove.
3.
Remove screws from the heat sink, slightly move the heat sink horizontally, then remove the processor.
4.
Heat of processor may make the cool seat at the bottom of the heat sink adhere to the processor.
To remove the heat sink from the processor, first turn the heat sink to the left and right lightly to make
sure that the heat sink can be apart from the processor.
5.
Push down the socket lever once to unlatch it from the hook, then slowly open the lever until it stops.
6.
Lift the plate.
7.
Lift the processor straight upward, and remove it.
8.
When removing the processor, install the protective cover to the CPU socket.
9.
When replacing a processor, install a new processor.
10. If you replace the processor, lightly press the processor to CPU socket, and close the plate.
11. Close the socket lever to fix it.
12. If you replace the processor, put the heat sink on the processor and fix the heat sink with four screws.
Temporarily tighten the four screws diagonally, then tighten them securely.
Make sure that the screw aligns with the screw hole. If not, the screw may damage the motherboard.
13. Make sure that the heat sink is installed on a level with the motherboard.
14. If you replace the processor, continue to install or remove internal optional devices, mount and connect
the server, and turn it on.
Run BIOS Setup Utility (SETUP) to confirm the following settings. Refer to Chapter 3 (2. System BIOS
Setup) in this document.
[Advanced] → [Processor Configuration] → [Processor Information]

Important
Do not remove any processor unless it is failed.
Important
Removing the heat sink with it adhering to the processor may cause the processor
and/or CPU socket to be defected.
• If the heat sink is not level, remove it, and then install it again.
Note
• The following probably causes the heat sink not to be level:
– The CPU is not positioned correctly.
– All screws are not completely tightened.
• Do not move the secured heat sink.
