Inserting Modules into Previously Empty Slots

The procedure below describes how to add additional I/O modules to previously empty slots
in the device's chassis.
1. Physically insert a module into a previously empty slot (refer to 'Insert a Module into a
Previously Empty Slot' on page 24)
2. Add the newly added interfaces to the 'Trunk Group Table' (refer to Configuring the
Trunk Group Table on page 25)
3. For digital modules (i.e., TRUNKS and BRI) configure the 'Trunk Settings' (refer to
'Configure the Trunk Settings' on page 27).

Insert a Module into a Previously Empty Slot

To install a module into a previously empty slot:
1. Power off the device.
2. Before adding a new module, refer to the rules under 'I/O Module Slot Assignment' on
page 21.
3. On the device's front panel, using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the black metal cover
plate protecting the module slot.
4. Insert the required module into the empty slot, aligning the module with the rails in the
slot in the following module orientation depending on whether you are inserting it in the
top- or bottom-row slots:
•
Top-row slots - Ensure that the module is orientated such that the port number
labels are located at the bottom of the module's front panel. This module
orientation is considered as facing up.
•
Bottom-row slots - Ensure that the module is orientated such that the port
number labels are located at the top of the module's front panel. This module
orientation is considered as facing down.
5. Push the module into the slot and press on it firmly to ensure it has been fully inserted.
6. Using a flathead screwdriver, tighten the module's mounting pins.
7. Power on the device.
Module Replacement Procedure
Ensure that you power down the device before adding a module to a
previously empty slot.
