Chapter 6: Security Mechanisms
6.6.2. IDP Subscriptions
The IDP feature must be purchased as an additional subscription, usually for a minimum of one
year. An IDP subscription means that the latest IDP signature database can be downloaded by
NetDefendOS and the database will be regularly updated automatically with the latest threat
signatures.
Figure 6.13. IDP Database Updating
The automatic checking for IDP signature updates by NetDefendOS can be done at a
configurable interval. IDP signature download is done via an HTTP connection to the D-Link
server network. When a new signature database version is available, it is downloaded and the old
database replaced.
Database updating is described further in Appendix A, Subscribing to Updates along with a
description of IDP behavior after subscription expiry.
Setting the Correct System Time
It is important that a NetDefendOS has the correct system time set if the auto-update feature in
the IDP module can function correctly. An incorrect time can mean the auto-updating is
disabled.
The following console command will show the current status of the auto-update feature:
> updatecenter -status
This information can also be viewed using the Web Interface by going to: Status > Maintenance
> Update Center.
