1.11.3 Over Temperature Behavior

When overheating is imminent, some cameras can enter an over temperature mode. This mode
includes several mechanisms to decrease the risk of overheating, and to alert the user to take
action for cooling the camera. Otherwise, the camera can be damaged and the image quality can
decrease.
The mechanisms include e.g. reporting of temperature states, event notification, and powering
down the camera. The mechanisms are activated at different device temperature thresholds and
they depend on whether the camera follows a heating or cooling path. For more details, see
Section 1.11.3.1 on page 51
The device temperature is measured inside the camera and reported in intervals of 1 °C. Currently,
only the core board temperature can be selected as the device temperature. You can monitor the
device temperature by reading the DeviceTemperature parameter value (see Section 1.11.3.2 on
page
55).
The over temperature mode is implemented in the following camera models:
acA640-750u, acA800-510u, acA1300-200u, acA1920-40u, acA1920-150u, acA1920-155u,
acA2040-55u, acA2040-120u, acA2440-35u acA2440-75u, and acA2500-60u.

1.11.3.1 Operation in Over Temperature Mode

At elevated device temperature, the camera behavior depends on whether the camera is heating
up (heating path) or cooling down (cooling path). When reading the following descriptions, see also
Figure 33 on
page
53.
Heating Path
When the device temperature is below or equal to 74 °C (165.2 °F) the TemperatureState
parameter value is Ok.
Normal operation of the camera requires that
Elevated temperatures worsen image quality and shorten the camera's
lifetime. The lifetime is also shortened with increasing number of high-
temperature incidents.
When the device temperature climbs above 74 °C the following changes occur:
the TemperatureState parameter value changes to Critical and
the Critical Temperature event is sent.
