Removing and Replacing the Transfer Plate

9-9-1
Tube racks travel on the Transfer Plate (Figure 9-10) as they move around the instrument. This
plate, and the racks, must be kept clean for proper operation. If the Transfer Plate becomes deeply
scratched, scored or otherwise damaged and cannot be repaired, it can cause rack jams. If this
hap-pens, it must be replaced. To replace the Transfer Plate (Figure 9-10) do the following:
1.
Turn off the instrument. Remove all instrument covers (see pages 9.2 to 9.4).
2.
Remove Display Assembly by removing two philips (cross) screws (item 2 on page 10.48)
3.
Remove the eighteen (18) M3 x 8mm metric allen screws shown as item 1 in Figure 9-10. Note the two
rear screws in Figure 9-10 are behind the metal Cross Guide (item 4 on page 10.38) near sensor PH3 and
PH2.
4.
Remove M3 allen screws holding sensors PH6 and PH1 in place (see page 7.9 to locate these three
sensors). Remove Return Feed Assembly (see paragraph 9-4 on page 9.3).
5.
Remove the four M3 x 6mm and two M3 x 8mm metric allen screws holding the Return Rack Guide in
place. See page 10.46 to locate screws (items 1 and 6) and Return Rack Guide (item 10). Slowly and
carefully pry the Return Rack Guide away from the Transfer Plate, being careful not to disturb the RTV
seal attached to the Transfer Plate. Remove the Transfer Plate Front Tab (see Figure 9-10) up and out of
the unit.
If RTV seal was disturbed, remove all old RTV, clean plate and apply a new bead of RTV in the same
location. This RTV seal is required to protect the instrument from liquid spills.
6.
Disconnect the seven white connectors (three in the back, four under the plate) holding the Transfer Plate
to the unit. The Transfer Plate may now be removed.
7.
Replace the Transfer Plate by re-attaching the seven connectors. Note connectors can be interchanged!
Observe each cable has a wire number ID tag and match up each matched pair of cables when
re-attaching connectors.
If a new Transfer Plate was installed, replace the white teflon Rack Guide rails onto the new Transfer
Plate. Replace any worn guide rails. Again, avoid damaging the RTV seals and replace the RTV if seals
are damaged.
8.
Place the Transfer Plate onto the unit. Verify the two infeed and two outfeed teflon Levers (items 5 and 44
on page 10.10) all clear the Transfer Plate with ample room on each side of the levers.
9.
Re-attach the Return Rack Guide to the unit and re-attach the three front sensors. Replace the sixteen
screws into the Transfer Plate and the six screws into the Return Rack Guide.
10. Re-attach Display Assembly but leave the covers off. Go into Service Mode and run With Tube Run (see
page 7.4) for at least 30 minutes to verify unit is working properly. Then re-install covers.
