6.
Remove the Preamp PC Board (item 6, page 10.30). Use proper static handling procedures to do
this removal since static electricity can damage this pc board.
7.
Remove Split Clamp (Figure 1 item 105), Spur Gear (item 106) and Large Spur Gear (item 104).
8.
Remove the Takeup Reel (Figure 1 item 112) from the Clinitek Atlas unit by removing its set screw
(Figure 1 item 111). Save ALL removed hardware (screws, washers, etc.).
9.
To prepare to replace the Reagent Takeup Motor, remove the Channel Cover (item 169A, page
10.14) behind Timing Belt by removing its four alien screws. Lift the Reel Mounting Plate (item 41,
page 10.62) away from the takeup motor cable by removing its two alien screws (item 44, page
10.62) and swinging plate down and out of the way of the cables. Unsnap the white plastic cable
clamp holding the cables at the card cage bottom right. Then remove the seven alien screws (item
27, page 10.14) holding the Power Driver PC Board to the instrument. Let the Power Driver PC Board
hang loose in the unit and unplug connector J1312 (Reagent Takeup Motor) from this board.
10. Using a spring hook, carefully extract the old Reagent Takeup Motor cable out of the unit. Remove
the Motor Mounting Plate and Reagent Takeup Motor (Figure 1 items 108 and 109).
11. Attach the Motor and Pulley Assembly (Figure 2 item 10) loosely to the Motor Mounting Plate (Figure
2 item 11), using the four 6-32 x 7/16 inch screws and #6 flat washers from the kit plus four of the
used #6 split lockwashers previously removed (Figure 2 item 17). Route the new motor cable in the
same location the old motor cable was installed. Connect the new motor cable connector P1312 to
the Power Driver PC Board.
12. Re-install the Power Driver PC Board, Channel Cover and the Reel Mounting Plate. Check that
cables P1302 and P1304 are tucked in and away from the Pipette Transport and the vertical pipette
movement. Check that Reel Mounting Plate steel cable is correctly attached to its white plastic pulley.
On the Power Driver PC Board, move Jumper connector on JP1 from pins 2-3 to pins 1-2 (see Figure
4). This will reverse the Takeup Motor to a clockwise direction, needed for the Removable Takeup.
13. Install the new Reagent Takeup Motor and Mounting Plate (Figure 2 items 10 and 11) into the
instrument using two of the original 10-32 x 1/2 inch screws removed earlier.
14. Install Shaft and Pulley Assembly (Figure 2 item 5).
15. Install Thrust Washer and Hub Assembly onto the Shaft and Pulley Assembly (Figure 2 items 2 and
3). Place Loctite 222 (or an equivalent non-permanent thread locking compound) on the threads of
the set screw (Figure 2 item 4). Gap the Hub Assembly and thrush washer 0.020 inch (0.5mm) away
from the Frame wall.
16. Attach the belt between the motor pulley and Shaft and Pulley Assembly. Push down on the motor
pulley to increase belt tension. Set this belt tension for a deflection of one quarter inch (0.250") or
6mm (see Figure 3). Then tighten the four motor screws.
17. Install the Take-Up Reel Lock Assembly (Figure 2 item 14) using two 4-40 x 3/8 inch socket screws
and two #4 split lock washers from the kit (Figure 2 items 15 and 16). This locking device holds the
Hub Assembly in place for removing used reagent rolls.
18. Install the Removable Takeup Reel (Figure 1 item 1). Note the "lock" and "unlock" symbols on the
hub for adding and removing the takeup reel.
19. Install the Preamp PC Board back into the unit.
