Since this system operates under the control and direction of the Clinitek?Atlas?Analyzer, refer to that service manual, part number 99A50018, in Method Overview Chapter Two for an explanation of Clinitek Atlas software operation. Also see Appendix A in this manual for an explanation of error handling between the two...
  • Page 13: Installation

In addition to the instructions in the operating manual, the following should be checked during the installation: the waste tubing from the Clinitek Atlas system Rinse Well to the waste bottle must be fixed to the rear wall without any sag. If there is a sag or stagnation of waste water in the waste tubing, waste water may over-flow from the Rinse Well and electrical problems may then occur with the Rack Sample Handler unit.

6-3-10 The Barcode Reader 6-3-10-1 The Barcode Reader is a BCR5242-STA BL-185 5 VDC LED device. It is used to read barcode printed labels mounted on sample tubes in the racks. Two-way RS-232D serial communication with the Main PC Board is done using connector CN4 on the Mother Board to connect the two assemblies.
  • Page 31: Figure 6-13 Infeed Operation

6-3-11-2 Figure 6-13 below is a block diagram of the Infeed electrical operation. Sensor PH1 detects the presence of a tube rack in the load position. The PH1 signal is sent via connector CN130 to the Mother Board CN10 connector and then to the I/O (Sub) PC Board. The I/O board in turn sends this rack status to the CPU (Main) PC Board.
  • Page 32: Figure 6-14 Crossfeed Operation

If a tube is seen, the CPU board stops the rack at this position in line with the pipette and informs the Clinitek Atlas instrument that a tube is ready to be sampled by the pipette.
  • Page 33: Figure 6-15 Outfeed And Returnfeed

6-3-11-7 The sensors not only inform the CPU board of the presence of a tube rack, they also tell if a rack is jammed. This is done by the CPU board directing the Driver PC Board to move a motor; if a sensor still detects the rack after the motor was directed to move the rack onward, the CPU board treats this as a rack jam and places the system into an error state.
