INSTALLING
NOTE: To aid in the alignment of the propeller
shafts and front engine drive flange, elevate the vehi-
cle off the floor with a suitable lift or jack and jack
stands so that the wheels come off the ground. Set the
transmission into the neutral position.
1. Before installing the front propeller shaft, check the
condition of the front driveline boot and locate the
O-rings. Replace if necessary. Place the boot and O-
rings into position on the front differential.
2. If a new carrier bearing assembly is being installed,
loosen the set screws then slide the assembly over
the front propeller shaft and into position over the
unpainted surface of the shaft. Position the set
screws toward the front of the vehicle.
3. Liberally apply molybdenum grease to the splines of
the shaft. With the propeller shaft O-ring installed at
the end of the shaft, engage the splines of the front
propeller shaft into the front differential.

4. Ensure the boot and O-rings are placed over the
recessed sections of the shaft and differential input
shaft.
5. If removed, secure the rubber coupler to the rear of
the center propeller shaft using new patch-lock
screws and lock nuts. Tighten to 50 ft-lb.
6. Place the center prop shaft into position. Using new
patch-lock screws, loosely install the rubber coupler
to the front engine drive flange.
7. Place the center rubber coupler between the center
and front propeller shafts, then loosely install new
patch-lock screws and lock nuts using the previous
noted locations of the screws and nuts.
8. Tighten the cap screws securing rear rubber coupler
to the front engine drive flange to 50 ft-lb.

9. Tighten the cap screws and lock nuts securing the
center rubber coupler to each propeller shaft to 50 ft-
lb.

10. With the set screws of the carrier bearing assembly
still loose, align the holes in the carrier bearing
bracket to the holes in the frame; then install new
patch-lock cap screws and lock nuts to secure the
carrier bracket to the frame. Tighten to 35 ft-lb.
Secure the set screws.

REMOVING REAR DRIVE AXLE
1. Remove the hubs (see Hub in this section).
2. Remove the cap screw and lock nut securing the
knuckle to the upper A-arm. Discard the lock nut.
