Creating the separation file

Getting information
about a separation file
You are now ready to create the separation file. First, check
the settings for each of the printing variables in the Print to
Press dialog box to ensure that they are correct. To save the
separation file:
Click Save. Print to Press will automatically calculate the cor-
1
rect separations to produce a CMYK accurate reproduction of
the original Polacolor print.
The color of the image may appear distorted when you
Note:
view the CMYK separation file on the monitor, because the
displayed colors represent the CMYK inks necessary to pro-
duce the printed image, as opposed to the correct RGB colors
required to produce the most pleasing monitor image.
Therefore, you should not assume that a display of the
CMYK file provides an accurate representation of the colors
in the final printed image.
The changed setup warning panel
A warning box will appear on the screen when you click on
the Print to Press Save button, if you have retrieved a Setup
and then modified any of the ink, paper, or press settings in
the Print to Press dialog. The box alerts you that the retrieved
settings have been changed. You can:
Click
Permanently, if you want to save the modified settings
as the new setup with the existing name.
Click This Image Only, if you want to use these settings for
the current image, but maintain the original setup in unmodi-
fied form.
Click Cancel, if you realize that the modified settings are
incorrect, and you don't want to apply them to this image or
save them.
Print to Press adds comments to the separation file that allow
you to discover the setup, paper, ink standard, press, and dot
gain settings that were used to create the separation file. This
is especially helpful when you have created many different
image files with various press setups.
