Using other Photoshop filters and tools

Adobe Photoshop offers many tools that can be helpful if you
want to touch-up a photograph. For example, the airbrush
and rubber stamp tools can be extremely useful if you need to
remove a blemish or defect from a scanned image. Refer to
your Photoshop manual for details on applying these tools.
Photoshop also offers numerous very powerful image process-
ing filters and tools that can change the appearance of your
image. Although you can use these techniques to make slight
changes to the color balance, brightness, or contrast of a pho-
tograph, you should avoid radical modifications, because the
monitor does not provide a good representation of the final
printed image.
The photographic print will no longer act as a proof of the
printed image if the photograph is extensively altered within
Photoshop. Although you will still be able to produce a
CMYK file of the edited image, you will need to use match
prints to accurately predict the appearance of the printed
result.
Remember, the goal of Print to Press software is to create a
printed image that closely matches the original Polacolor
print. Therefore, you should never try to judge the image on
the monitor or optimize the image so that it looks better on
the monitor, since the monitor does not accurately represent
the final printed image.
