Selecting the paper

Different ink standards are used in different parts of the
world. Therefore, the correct ink standard is generally deter-
mined by the geographic location of the printer.
SWOP is the ink standard used for almost all printing jobs
within the United States. You should check with your printer
if you are in doubt about the standard that will be used for
your print job.
To select an ink standard:

EuroStandard is a European standard.
FIPP is a European standard.
SWOP (Specifications for Web Offset Publications) is the
standard most commonly used within the United States.
Toyo is a Japanese standard.
Although Print to Press supports five ink standards, it

currently ships with only the SWOP standard installed.
Therefore, the other ink standards will appear gray in the
pop-up menu. Please contact your Print to Press dealer if you
need any of the other standards.
The Paper box allows you to select the paper stock that will
be used for the printing job. Specifying the correct stock is
important because the paper stock and its coating affect ink
absorbancy and therefore ink spread, dot gain, and color.
The difference in printing characteristics among the different
papers is enormous and will have a major effect upon your
printed piece. You should check with your printer or designer
if you are unsure of the correct selection.
