Creating a For Position Only (FPO) image

Selecting the ink standard

4-14
All Print to Press files include an 80 x 80 pixel low-resolution
thumbnail image that can be viewed within the File Open dia-
log box of many image processing and desktop publishing
programs.
We recommend that you set up your desktop publishing soft-
ware to display these previews in their File Open dialog box.
The thumbnails can help you find the correct file, especially
when you have many images stored on your disk.
You can also create a medium-resolution preview image by
clicking on the FPO Preview box. When this box is checked,
Print to Press software stores a 512 x 512 pixel version of the
image along with the CMYK file. This file operates as a For
Position Only image within desktop publishing packages.
The FPO file can be used as a placeholder by many desktop
publishing programs. The medium-resolution file allows you
to crop, size, and place an image without having to load the
high resolution version, which speeds the prepress design
operation and saves screen redraw time. Any changes made to
the FPO version will then be reflected in the higher resolution
file when the separation plates are made.
Check the FPO Preview box if your desktop publishing soft-
ware can use the FPO file. This will speed screen redrawing
and save time during the design process.
Uncheck the FPO Preview box if your software cannot use the
preview image. The creation of an FPO file will increase the
file size and the conversion time slightly.
The Ink Standard box allows you to select the correct stan-
dard for your printing job. The ink standard defines the set of
color inks that will be used, and their characteristics, such as
ink color, coverage and spread.
