Authentication of Self Encrypting Devices
SED is a self-encrypting hard drive with a circuit built into the disk drive controller chip
that encrypts all data to the magnetic media and decrypts all the data from the media
automatically. SED Drives provides protection against Data at Rest. Hence if a drive is
pulled out and sent for replacement, the valuable User Data remains encrypted and
unavailable for reading unless the access can be authenticated with the set authentication
key. Please follow the below steps to complete authentication to SED.

When SED setup is detected following SED authentication page will be shown before the whole booting
process is completed. You can either enter 'New Authentication Key' or select the checkbox to use the
'Default Authentication Key'. Click Apply after entering verification code.
NOTE: Forgotten passwords cannot be restored due to security reasons and may result in inaccessibility of
data permanently. Hence please make sure to take extra care while providing authentication key.
While an SED enabled System is shipped, AMI puts a System Unique Default
Authentication Key in AMI's Production Line which provides User Data Security. It is
strongly recommended that user enters User's own Authentication Key.
