Battery Maintenance

Keep battery terminals and connections free of corrosion.
If cleaning is necessary, remove the corrosion with a stiff
wire brush. Wash with a solution of one tablespoon baking
soda and one cup water. Rinse well with tap water and dry
off with clean shop towels. Coat the terminals with
dielectric grease or petroleum jelly.
Battery electrolyte is poisonous. It contains
sulfuric acid. Serious burns can result from
contact with skin, eyes or clothing. Antidote:
External: Flush with water.
Internal: Drink large quantities of water or milk.
Follow with milk of magnesia, beaten egg, or
vegetable oil. Call physician immediately.
Eyes: Flush with water for 15 minutes and get
prompt medical attention.
Batteries produce explosive gases.
Keep sparks, flame, cigarettes, etc. away.
Ventilate when charging or using in an enclosed
space. Always shield eyes when
working near batteries.
KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
NOTE: Batteries must be fully charged before use or
battery life will be reduced by 10-30% of full
potential. Charge battery for 3-5 hours at a current
equivalent to 1/10 of the battery's rated amp/hour
capacity. Do not use the vehicle's stator/alternator
to charge a new battery.

Battery Removal

1. Remove or pull the driver's seat forward to access
the battery.

2. Disconnect the black (negative) battery cable.
3. Disconnect the red (positive) battery cable.
4. Remove the rubber strap and lift the battery out of the
vehicle.
To reduce the chance of sparks: Whenever
removing the battery, disconnect the black
(negative) cable first. When reinstalling the
battery, install the black (negative) cable last.

Battery Installation

IMPORTANT: Using a new battery that has not been
fully charged can damage the battery and result in a
shorter life. It can also hinder vehicle performance.
Follow the battery charging procedure before
installing the battery.
1. Ensure the battery is fully charged.
2. Place the battery in the battery holder and secure with
rubber strap.
3. Coat the terminals with dielectric grease or petroleum
jelly.
4. Connect and tighten the red (positive) cable first.
5. Connect and tighten the black (negative) cable last.
6. Verify that cables are properly routed and reinstall the
driver's seat.
