Replacing t he s aw c hain
CAUTION: U se o nly c hains a nd g uide b ars d esigned f or t his s aw ( see t he " Extract f rom t he s pare-­parts l ist")!
Check t he s procket b efore m ounting a n ew c hain.
Worn out sprockets (8) may damage the new chain and must
therefore b e r eplaced.
Remove t he s procket g uard ( See " PUTTING I NTO O PERA-­
TION").
Remove t he c hain a nd g uide b ar.
Remove circlip (9).
CAUTION: The circlip will pop out of the groove. When
removing it, hold your thumb against it to prevent it from
popping o ff.
Remove thrust washer (11).
If the sprocket (8) is worn out, the complete clutch drum (12)
will need to be replaced (for the part number, see " Extract
from the spare p arts l ist").
Install a complete new clutch drum (12), cup washer (11)
and new circlip (9) ( for t he p art n umbers, s ee " Extract from
the s pare p arts l ist").
For r eplacing t he g uide b ar, c hain, a nd s procket s ee " PUT-­
TING I NTO O PERATION".
NOTE:
Don't use a new chain on a worn chain sprocket. By the
time 2 c hains h ave w orn, t he s procket h as b ecome w orn
out, s o i t s hould b e r eplaced a t l east a t e very s econd c hain
replacement. T o d istribute t he c hain o il e venly, r un a n ew
chain a t h alf-­throttle f or a f ew m inutes b efore u se.
New chains stretch, so check the chain tension frequently
(see " Checking t he c hain t ension").
