When felling, maintain a distance of at least 2 1/2 tree
lengths f rom t he n earest p erson ( see fi g. 1 7).
Note:
The noise of your engine may drown any warning call.
Felling i nstructions:

Then, establish a path of escape and remove all ob-­

Then, determine the placement of the felling notch
(fig. 21). The felling notch when properly placed de-­
termines the direction in which the tree will fall. It is
made p erpendicular t o t he l ine o f f all a nd s hould b e a s
close to the ground as possible. Cut the felling notch
to a d epth o f a bout o ne-­fifth t o o ne-­fourth o f t he t runk
diameter ( fig. 2 2). I t s hould b e i n n o c ase h igher t han
it is deep. Make the felling notch very carefully.
