SCHERMULY FLARES
1~
SCHERMULY flares
are
used
to
illuminate
the
ground
during
night
operations.
Two
flares
are
carried
on a support
on
the
port
side
of
the
fuselage.

PILOT'S
CONTROLS
Firing
of
the
flares
is
controlled
electrically.
The
control
system
comprises:
.
-a
"FLARES"
push-button
situated
on the
control,
-a
firing
push-button
on
the
pilot's
cyclic
control
grip.
-
The
firing
circuit
is
protected
by a fuse
situated
on the
control
console
fuse
panel.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
The
maximum
altitude
for
firing
the
flares
is
1500
ft
(500
m).
For
maximum
effectiveness,
the
second
flare
should
be
fired
at
an altitude
of
at
least
800
ft
(250
m).
It
should
be noted,
however,
that
firing
the
flares
below
1200
ft
(400
m)
may
be dangerous
if
a fire
hazard
exists
in
the
area
to
be illuminated.
