CAUTION:
Pull out battery beforedoingany inspectionor
maintenance.

Checkingthe condition of the bit. (WH18DSDL)
The bits should be checked regularly. If worn or
brokenbits can slip or decreasethe efficiencyof the
motor and burn it out.
Replaceworn bits with new ones.
CAUTION:
If you use a driverbit of which point is worn or
broken, it will be dangerous since it slips.So
replace it with a new one.
2. Checkingthe condition of the socket(WR18DSDL)
A worn or deformed hex. or a square-holedsocket
will not give an adequate tightness to the fitting
betweenthe nut or anvil, consequently resulting in
lossof tightening torque. Payattention to wearof a
socket holes periodically, and replace with a new
one if needed.
3. Checkthe Screws
Loosescrewsaredangerous.Regularlyinspectthem
and makesure they aretight.
Ak CAUTION:
Usingthis power tool with loosened screws is
extremelydangerous.
Maintenanceof the motor
The motor unit winding is the very "heart" of the
power tool.
Exercisedue care to ensure the winding does not
becomedamagedand/or wet with oil or water.
Inspectingthe carbon brushes(Fig. 14)
The motor employs carbon brushes which are
consumable parts. Since and excessively worn
carbon brush can result in motor trouble, replace
the carbon brush with new ones when it becomes
worn to or nearthe "wear limit". In addition,always
keepcarbonbrushescleanandensurethatthey slide
freely within the brush holders.
NOTE:
When replacingthe carbon brush with a new one,
be sure to use the Hitachi Carbon Brush Code No.
999054.

Replacingcarbon brushes
Take out the carbon brush by first removing the
brush cap and then hooking the protrusion of the
carbon brush with a flat headscrew driver, etc., as
shown in Fig. 16.
When installing the carbon brush, choose the
directionso thatthe nailof the carbon brush agrees
with the contactportion outsidethe brushtube.Then
pushit inwith afinger asillustratedin Fig.17.Lastly,
install the brush cap.
Ak CAUTION
Beabsolutely sureto insertthe nailofthe carbon
brushinto the contactportionoutsidethe brush
tube. (Youcan insertwhicheveroneof the two
nailsprovided.)
Cautionmust be exercised sinceanyerrorin this
operationcan resultin the deformednail of the
carbonbrush andmay cause motortroubleat an
earlystage.
