Whenthe pilotlampflickers rapidlyin red(at0.2-
secondintervals), checkfor and take out any
foreign objects inthe charger's b atteryinstallation
hole.If thereare noforeign objects, i t is probable
thatthe battery or charger i smalfunctioning. Take
it to yourauthorizedServiceCenter.
BEFORE USE
Check the work areato makesurethat it isclearof debris
andclutter.
Clearthe area of unnecessarypersonnel.Ensurethat
lighting andventilation is adequate.
OPERATION
1. Installing the bit (WH18DSDL)
Always follow the following procedure to install
driver bit. (Fig.6)

(1) Pullthe guide sleeveforward.
(2) Insert the bit into the hexagonal hole in the anvil.
(3) Release the guide sleeveandit returnsto its origianl
position.
Ak CAUTION
If the guidesleevedoesnotreturn to its original
position, t hen the bit isnot installedproperly.
2. Removing the bit (WH18DSDL)
Please do the opposite point on the method of
installing bit.
3. Selecting the socket matched to the bolt
(WR18DSDL)
Be sureto usea socketwhich is matchedto the bolt
to be tightened. Using an improper socketwill not
only result in insufficient tightening but also in
damageto the socket or nut.
Aworn or deformed hex.or square-holed socketwill
not give an adequatetightness for fitting to the nut
or anvil,consequently resultingin lossof tightening
torque.
Pay attention to wear of socket hole, and replace
before further wear has developed.
4. Installing a socket (WR18DSDL)
Selectthe socketto be used.
• Plungertype (Fig. 7)
Align the plunger located in the square part of the
anvil with the hole in the hex. socket.Thenpushthe
English
plunger, and mount the hex. socket on the anvil.
Check that the plunger is fully engaged in the hole.
When removing the socket, reverse the sequence.
Ak CAUTION
• Pleaseusethe designatedattachments which are
listed in the operations manual and Hitachi's
catalog. Accidents or injuriescouldresultfrom
not doingso.
• Make sureto firmlyinstallthe socketin the anvil.
If the socketisnotfirmly installedit mightcome
out andcauseinjuries.

Confirm that the battery is mounted correctly.
Check the rotational direction
The bit rotates clockwise (viewed from the rear side)
by pushing the R-side of the push button.
The L-side of the push button is pushed to turn the
bit counterclockwise. (See Fig. 8).
(The ,o and _ marks are engraved on the body.)

/k CAUTION
The pushbutton can not be switchedwhile the
impact driver is turning. To switch the push
button,stopthe impactdriver,then setthe push
button.
7. Switch operation
© When the trigger switch is depressed, the tool
rotates.Whenthe trigger is released,the tool stops.
© The rotational speed can be controlled by varying
the amount that the trigger switch is pulled. Speed
