LTO-3 Half-Height Tape Drive User's Guide
There are various ways to view the log files to see whether Linux
recognizes the tape drive:
• One method is to open a terminal window and issue the following
command from the root directory:
dmesg | grep SCSI
This command produces an output similar to:
(scsi0)<Adaptec AHA-294XX Ultra2 SCSI host adapter> found at PCI 0/16/0
• Another method might be to use the command:
cat /proc/scsi/scsi
This command produces an output similar to:
Host: scsi0 Channel: 0 Id:6 Lun:00
Vendor: Quantum Model: ULTRIUM 3 Rev: 1897
Type: Sequential-Access ANSI SCSI revision 04
• You can also use a text editor to view the messages in the file
and look for tape drive entries.
• Sometimes a system can have multiple tape device names in the
directory and will not know which
device number for your attached tape drive, use the command:
dmesg | grep tape
This command produces an output similar to:
