Chapter 5—Recording

Erasing Discs (CD-RW only)

Partially recorded and finalized CD-RW discs can be erased using the four Erasure
functions: Last Track Erase, TOC Erase, Disk Erase, and Initialize Erase. Last Track
Erase erases the last recorded track on unfinalized discs. Tracks can be erased one at a
time by repeating the Track Erase function. TOC Erase erases the TOC on a finalized
disc so that additional tracks can be recorded. Disk Erase erases all tracks quickly, so the
entire disc can be used again. Initialize erases all tracks, but performs a more through
erasure than Disk Erase and takes longer. Initialize Erase is recommended for discs that
were previously used to store data tracks and are now to be used for audio recording.
From stop, press the [ERASE] button.
1
Erase Standby mode is engaged, "ERASE xxxx" flashes on the display ("xxxx" being the
selected Erase function), and the REC indicators flash.
If the next step is not performed within four seconds, Erase Standby mode is cancelled.
Use the [PREV] and [NEXT] button to select an Erasure function.

Erasure starts, "ERASING" appears on the display, the REC indicators light up contin-
uously, and the PLAY indicators flash.
Erasure takes place at 4x normal recording speed and the time remaining to complete
the process counts down on the display in minutes and seconds. No other CDR1000
functions can be used while erasure is in progress.
When the erasure process is finished, the REC and PLAY indicators go out and "ERAS-
ING" disappears from the display.
Using Auto Unfinalize (CD-RW only)
The Auto Unfinalize function allows you to record additional tracks to finalized
CD-RW discs without first having to erase the TOC. When a finalized CD-RW disc is
loaded, and recording is started in the normal way, the disc is unfinalized automatically
and recording carried out as normal. Essentially, Auto Unfinalize produces the same
result as using the TOC Erase function.
