Operating Notes

This section contains information that will help you get the most from your CDR1000.
Playback
The CDR1000 can play prerecorded audio CDs, audio tracks on partially recorded or
finalized CD-R or CD-RW discs, and audio tracks on hybrid discs. Only Session 1 of a
multi-session disc can be played.
Recording
The CDR1000 can record onto blank or partially recorded CD-R and CD-RW discs for
data, digital audio, or consumer digital audio applications, in fact, any disc bearing one
of the following logos.
Discs for digital audio applications are sometimes referred to as CD-R-DA and
CD-RW-DA. Partially recorded hybrid discs that contain data tracks cannot be used for
recording.
The CDR1000 can record up to 99 tracks per disc and up to 99 indexes per track, the
standard for audio CDs. The minimum length of a track is four seconds, so even if you
stop recording before four seconds is up, the final track will be four seconds long.
OPC Testing
Each time a non-finalized CD-R or CD-RW disc is loaded, the CDR1000 performs an
OPC (Optimal Power Calibration) test to determine the optimum laser power neces-
sary for recording. OPC, which is necessary because the amount of laser power required
varies between discs, records a test pattern in the PCA (Power Calibration Area), an area
of the disc reserved specifically for OPC testing. The test pattern is then read and the
laser power set accordingly. During OPC testing, "OPC" appears on the display and no
other functions can be used until testing is complete.
For partially recorded CD-R discs, if OPC has been performed 94 times, finalization is
performed automatically. This is because OPC cannot be performed more than 99
times, and if OPC is not possible, then finalization is not possible, which could render
a disc unusable on standard CD players. If a CD-R disc on which OPC has been per-
formed more than 95 times is loaded, "OPC OVER" appears on the display. The only
functions available in this situation are disc tray open and close.
