A4 Pad Control and AGC
PAD is a voice line gain/loss function expressed in decibels (dB). The KX-TDA0480 is able to
insert a digital pad in the outgoing and/or incoming speech path in order to optimise the gain
or loss level of the voice signal.
The KX-TDA0480's AGC (Automatic Gain Control) functions on the PAD In side in a manner
similar to that of the PAD In function, but operates by automatically adjusting the voice signal
to a preset level.
A4.1 PAD Controls
The default Pad settings can be modified by the user. This is usually done on a network-wide
basis.
In most cases it should not be necessary to modify the default PAD In and PAD Out settings.
Indications that some adjustment is required are:
Voice level too low:
Voice loud/distorted:
Excessive background noise: Decrease gain by increasing PAD level.
The following issues should be considered when adjusting the pad control.
• The digital pad value for the KX-TDA0480 can be selected as -40,-38,c,-14, -12, -10, -8,
-6, -4, -2, 0, +2, +4, +6, +8, +10, +12, +14 dB.
The unit default settings are:
PAD Out =
PAD In =
A4.2 AGC
When enabled, the AGC feature allows the KX-TDA0480 to adjust the voice signal strength to
a predetermined level.
As a rule, it is recommended that the PAD In value be set to 0 dBm when using this feature.
