A3 DNS Configuration

A3.1 KX-TDA0480 DNS Functions

The function of a DNS system in the KX-TDA0480 network is to provide telephone number
to IP Address translations when an H.323 Gatekeeper is not used.
The KX-TDA0480 is able to use DNS information from internal DNS Database (limit of up to
511 units in the Network)
The KX-TDA0480 Internal DNS Database file (DNS.DAT) is located in the directory 3.1 /
VHUB/ETC within each unit. This information is common to all units in the network and is
used to set IP Gateway network "priority connections". Since the internal DNS information
resides autonomously in each KX-TDA0480, it is necessary to update every unit's DNS
configuration file whenever the network configuration is changed.

A3.2 KX-TDA0480 Internal DNS Database

The internal DNS.DAT file is a simple text based database file. Each line in the file is a record
containing number translation information for the KX-TDA0480 in a network sharing the same
domain.
Within each record, fields are identified by a single letter. Following each field identifier, the
field values are recorded.
The fields in the DNS.DAT file are:
N = Called Unit Code (KX-TDA0480 Office Code).
R = Remaining digits to be dialled in order to complete a connection. (Up to 32 digits)
I = IP address and Connection port no. (It is possible to omit the value at 1720.) of
destination KX-TDA0480
