Introduce the head of the jack into the rec-
tangular recess as it is extended, see detail.

Continue to turn the crank handle until the
wheel you wish to change is lifted clear of
the ground.
Fitting the wheel
1.
Take out the wheel studs and remove the
wheel.
2.
Remove heavy dirt deposits from the wheel
and hub contact faces and clean the wheel
studs.
3.
Fit the new wheel or the spare wheel and
insert at least two diagonally opposed
wheel studs.
If the car is not fitted with alloy wheels of the
Genuine BMW type, note that different
wheel studs may be needed.
4.
Insert and screw up the remaining wheel
studs, then tighten them all firmly, working
across the hub rather than round it.
5.
Lower the car and remove the jack.
After fitting
1.
Tighten the studs alternately on opposite
sides of the hub.
For safety reasons, have the wheel
stud tightening torque checked with-
out delay, using a suitable calibrated torque
wrench. The correct tightening torque is
120
Nm.<
2.
Correct the tyre pressure at the earliest
opportunity.
Prevent dirt from entering the tyre
valves by attaching screw-on dust

caps. Dirt in the tyre valve can often lead to
a gradual loss of air
3.
Initialise the Run Flat Indicator, see
page 71, and the Sequential M Gearbox,
see After changing wheels/tyres on
page 166.
4.
Fit a new tyre in place of the damaged one
as soon as possible, and have a new wheel
balanced.
Stowing away wheel and tools
1.
Place the tool holder in the wheel.
2.
Place the cover on the holder.
3.
Align the wheel and cover centrally in rela-
tion to the lashing eyes 6.
4.
Engage the strap in the lashing eyes.
5.
Open the buckle fully.
6.
Thread the strap 3 through the buckle's
shaft 7, taking care not to twist it, and
tighten it by hand.
7.
Tighten the strap by repeatedly folding the
buckle open and closing it again.
8.
Fold the buckle closed and tuck away the
loose end of the strap.
Driving with spare wheel
With certain wheel/tyre combinations, the
size of the spare wheel differs from that of
the other wheels. The spare wheel is suitable
without restriction for driving at all loads and
speeds. However, you are advised to fit a
wheel/tyre combination that matches the origi-
nal specification as soon as
pressure.<
