displayed indicates the current amount of oil
above the minimum level in litres.
When the engine is started, the value last
calculated is displayed.
The oil level must be between the two marks.
Precise level measurement
The oil level is measured continuously during a
journey or while the car is at a standstill with the
engine running.
It may take 30 minutes or longer for a new value
to be calculated.
If only dashes are shown in the display, it
has not been possible to calculate a new
value. This may be the case e.g. if only short dis-
tances have been driven or if the car has been
driven enthusiastically.<
Rapid measurement
In addition to continuous measurement, you
also have the option of performing a rapid
measurement of the current oil level, e.g. after
topping up engine oil, though this measure-
ment is not as precise.
1. Park the car on a level surface with the
engine at operating temperature, in other
words after driving uninterrupted for at least
10 km (6 miles).
2. Leave the engine running at idle speed.
3. Press the BC button on the flashing turn
indicator lever until the display for oil level
appears in the instrument cluster.
4. Press the BC button on the flashing turn
indicator lever for at least 2 seconds.
The oil level is gauged. A clock symbol
appears during the measuring process.
5. The current oil level is displayed after
approx. 1 minute.
If not all conditions of measuring are met,
e.g. if the engine is still cold, "-.-" appears.
The requested measurement will be performed
as soon as possible.<

1 Oil level correct
2 Oil level at minimum:
Top up with no more than 1 litre of engine
oil at the next opportunity, see Adding
engine oil further below
3 Oil level too high
Have the car checked immediately,
otherwise too much oil could result in
engine damage.<
4 Oil level at maximum
5 Rapid measurement in progress: oil level is
being gauged
6 No value can be calculated at the moment

Adding engine oil

Do not add oil until the oil level measurement
function indicates a value just above the mini-
mum of 0.0 litre. When this level is reached, a
message also appears on the control display.
Top up the oil level within the next 200 km
(125 miles), otherwise the engine may
suffer damage.
Top up with no more than 1 litre (1.8 Imp. pints)
of oil, as adding too much oil could result in
engine damage.
Add at least 0.5 litre (0.9 Imp. pint) of oil,
