radiate on a vertical plane. This may increase the benefit of antenna diversity by taking
advantage of diverse reflections off of environmental objects such as walls, floors, desks,
and ceilings.
f.
Use of lower frequency channels may slightly increase transmission distance and
wall penetration. For maximum wall penetration, consider use of G band channels
and antennas.
g.
As a final optimization, you might want to compare receiver signal strength across all
frequencies. Starting at the lowest frequency, make note of the weakest signal strength
reported by any receiver. Select the next frequency via the Media LAN Settings page on
the transmitter. Allow the receivers to bind. Again, record the weakest signal strength
reported by any receiver. Repeat this process until all channels have been tested. Set the
transmitter for the channel that resulted in the strongest recorded signal strength. Take
care to evaluate only those channels that are compatible with the antennas that you have
selected. For example, do not test G band channels with UNII band antennas.
6.
Once acceptable signal strength is attained, turn off the MPX transmitter and receivers.
7.
Mount your MPX extenders securely without altering their orientation. See Appendix C,
Mounting Options on page 79.
8.
If your antennas will be subject to wind or other forces that might cause them to rotate out of
position, then you might consider use of a few drops of silicon gel to lock the position of
the antenna.
9.
Attach the video and audio source devices to the MPX transmitter.
NOTE: With your MPX1000 unit, you have received two snap-on ferrites. If you are using the analog audio (RCA
Jacks) these ferrites should be applied to each end of the cables. Apply the ferrites approximately one inch from
the cable ends. One ferrite goes around both cables.
10. Attach the video and audio sink devices to the MPX receiver(s).
11. Turn on your sink devices.
12. Turn on your MPX receivers.
13. Turn on your MPX transmitter and wait for the receivers to bind.
14. Turn on your source device.
15. Start a media stream from the source device to the MPX transmitter.
16. Using the browser client, launch to the transmitter's Connection Status page. Figure 3.7 on
page 41 illustrates the Bound Receiver Status table. Verify frame rate and signal strength for
each of the bound receivers. The Media LAN Performance web page provides additional
useful information. Make final adjustments, if necessary.
