MPX Extender Installer/User Guide
1.
Within the Transmitter Menu, select the Source Device Settings page. Figure 3.2 illustrates the
available settings.
2.
The default setting, Plug-and-Play, allows the transmitter to auto-detect the video format from
the video cable or adapter that is attached to the transmitter. Auto-detection relies upon the
state of ID bits that the transmitter reads from the attached video cable. When using Avocent
cables or adapters, the transmitter will properly sense the type of source device. Use of third-
party video cables will cause the transmitter to sense the cable type as DVI-D/HDMI. Select
your source device type as follows:
a.
DVI-D/HDMI: Plug-and-Play will properly detect DVI/HDMI source devices when using
third-party cables or adapters. You may also use the optional DVI-HDMI/CEC adapter
that is available from Avocent.
b.
RGBHV: Plug-and-play will properly sense an RGBHV source device only if you use the
DVI-HD15F adapter that was provided with your transmitter. This adapter may be used
with third-party HD15-to-HD15 video cables or with HD15-to-DVI-A cables. For
RGBHV source devices, place this adapter onto the transmitter at this time. Should you
decide to not use the supplied DVI-HD15F adapter, then select Manual (VGA) from the
drop down list at this time.
c.
YPbPr: Plug-and-play will properly sense a YPbPr source device only if you use the
optional Avocent component video cable, DVI-BNC3, with your transmitter. Attach this
cable onto the transmitter at this time. Otherwise, to use third-party cables, select Manual
(Component) from the drop-down list at this time.
d.
CV and YC: Plug-and-play will properly sense a composite video (CV) or S-Video (YC)
source device only if you use the optional Avocent component video cable, DVI-YCV,
with your transmitter. Attach this cable onto the transmitter at this time. Otherwise, to use
third-party cables, select Manual (Composite) or Manual (S-Video) as appropriate from
the drop-down list at this time.
To configure transmitter system settings: (Optional)
1.
Within the Transmitter Menu, select the System Settings page.
2.
Type a friendly name into the Device Name text box. This will cause the name to be displayed
throughout the web interface as means to identify the transmitter.
3.
The HTTPS Required setting allow you to explicitly set HTTPS as the transport protocol for
access to the web interface. Should you do so, it will be necessary to install a certificate from
the MPX extender onto your browser client. HTTPS ensures encryption of all web content. If
this setting is disabled, you may obtain a secure web session with the transmitter by launching
an https session rather than an http session from your browser client.
4.
For MPX1000 transmitters only, you may disable the ability to set the IP address of the
transmitter via the front panel (five button) interface. By default, this capability is enabled.
5.
The Remote Console feature allows for centralized control of the MPX extenders that are
deployed at remote locations. Contact Avocent technical support before you enable
this feature.
