Effect on X.25 Printers
If the NOINVITATION attribute of the FASTCNFG file is set to NO
(the default value), FASTPX25 clears the call SVC by using the
Guardian CONTROL 12 call. For ITI circuits this causes an
INVITATION TO CLEAR X.29 data packet to be sent. This packet
ensures that all data packets have been received by the remote PAD
before the circuit is cleared and the Spooler supervisor is informed
that the job is complete. EXCLUSIVE ON doesn't alter this behavior;
the Guardian OPEN to the X25AM SU is maintained between jobs.
If the NOINVITATION attribute is set to YES (because the PAD does
not support INVITATION TO CLEAR) or if SVC sharing is used,
EXCLUSIVE should be set to OFF or OFF!
Setting bit 2 (%20000) instructs FASTPX25 to print diagnostic
messages about device errors encountered.
Typically when a communications error is encountered by a print
process, the error code is returned to the Spooler supervisor, which
takes care of reporting the error and performing any retries.
However, for X.25 connections this can yield only scant information
about a problem and can make diagnosing the problem very difficult.
To aid in diagnosing X.25 connection problems, FASTPX25 can be
instructed to print more information about such errors to $0 before it
passes the problem back to the supervisor. When this bit is set, the
following EMS 512 messages are reported by FASTPX25:
DEV: device-name X25 Line Reset Cause: nnn,
Diag mmm
DEV: device-name X25 Circuit Disconnect nnnn1
nnnn2 nnnn3 nnnn4
DEV: device-name X25 Disconnect Cause: nnn,
Diag: mmm
DEV: device-name X25 Call failed to NUA
address, Err:
DEV: device-name Using SVC svc for Job nnnn
These messages are in addition to reporting the error to the Spooler
supervisor.
