CHAPTER 2
3. Lifter Operation
The lifter in the tray is strung by 4 wires. The wires are wound around the 4 pulleys when the
deck motor is driven, to raise the lifter. When the tray is pulled out, the gear on the pulley and
the motor gear are disengaged, and the lifter drops under its own weight.
The paper-size sensing switches (SW701 - 704) detect whether the tray is installed in the
deck. Once the paper deck driver has detected that the tray is correctly installed, it turns the lifter
clutch (CL31) ON. The lifter is raised until the paper surface sensor (PS34) turns "H". When the
paper level has dropped and PS34 has turned to "L", the paper deck driver re-activates CL31 and
raises the lifter until PS34 returns to "H".
If the lifter has not reached PS34 within the designated time after starting to rise, the paper
deck driver assesses a lifter failure and notifies the option controller. When paper is loaded in the
tray as shown in Figure 2-10-10, there is a possibility that the wires will break from the excess
strain as the paper deck driver will try to raise the lifter until the paper is detected by PS32. To
prevent this from happening, the lifter abnormal position sensing switch (SW31) has been
installed. When SW31 goes ON due to detecting paper, the lifter is stopped in the same way as
when PS34 turns to "H". A lifter failure is notified by the paper deck driver to the option
controller.
