Hardware Upgrades
This chapter explains how to remove the workstation access panel and convert
the minitower workstation to a desktop or the desktop workstation to a
minitower. It also explains how to install the following optional upgrade or
replacement hardware:
Additional memory
Expansion boards
Additional graphics memory
Optional drives
Replacement battery
This chapter also includes information about when to reconfigure the
workstation to ensure that it recognizes the newly installed hardware.
IMPORTANT: Compaq recommends that you finish the setup procedures for
the preinstalled software before you install any optional hardware or third-
party devices that were not included with your workstation. For more
information about the setup procedures, refer to the Software Installation
Guide .
Installation Sequence
It is very important that you follow this sequence of steps to ensure the proper
installation of any optional equipment.
1.
If the workstation is already on, turn it off and disconnect the power
cord from the wall outlet.
2.
Disconnect the keyboard, monitor, network cable, and other external
equipment connected to the workstation.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of electrical shock, fire, or damage
to the equipment, do not plug telecommunications/telephone
connectors into the network interface controller (NIC) receptacles.
