Preface

This document provides routine maintenance procedures for the Nortel
Ethernet Routing Switch 8300. Routine maintenance practices include
regularly scheduled visual inspections and daily monitoring of the network.
The frequency for conducting these checks depends on the significance and
function of the equipment, how often configuration changes are made, and
if there are dramatic changes in traffic patterns.

Before you begin

This guide is intended for qualified service personnel who need to install
or replace Nortel Ethernet Routing Switch 8300 modules in the chassis. A
qualified service person should have appropriate technical training and
experience and be aware of the hazards involved in installing and replacing
customer-replaceable units.

Text conventions

This guide uses the following text conventions:
angle brackets (< >)
bold Courier text

Indicate that you choose the text to enter based on
the description inside the brackets. Do not type the
brackets when entering the command.
Example: If the command syntax is
ping <ip_address>, you enter
ping 192.32.10.12
Indicates command names and options and text that
you need to enter.
Example: Use the dinfo command.
Example: Enter show ip {alerts|routes}.
