CHECKING THE SIDE STAND

Read page 59 (MAINTENANCE) and
page 101 (CHECKING THE SWITCHES)
carefully.
The side stand (1) has two positions:
√ folded up (at rest) (Pos.A);
√ down (supporting the bike) (Pos.B).
The side stand must be operated by the
rider.
The stand (1) must rotate freely.
The springs (2) keep the stand in the
desired position (up or down).
Check the stand as follows:
Place the vehicle on the rear wheel
u
stand, see page 70 (PLACING THE
V E H I C L E O N T H E R E A R W H E E L
STAND ).
The springs (2) must not be damaged,
u
worn, oxidised or weakened.

Make sure that the stand has no free
u
play in the up or down position.
With the stand up, pull it down and make
u
sure the springs let it achieve the fully
down position.
Pull up the stand and release it at mid
u
travel to make sure it goes fully up.
The stand must rotate freely. Grease the
u
j o i n t i f n e e d e d , s e e p a g e 1 1 6
(LUBRICANT CHART).
The side stand (1) is equipped with a
safety switch (3) that inhibits engine
operation when a gear is engaged with the
side stand (1) down.
To check for proper operation of the
stand switch (3):
Remove the rear wheel stand, see page
u
70 (PLACING THE VEHICLE ON THE
REAR WHEEL STAND ).
Sit astride the vehicle.
u
Fold up the side stand (1).
u
Start
the
engine,
see
u
(STARTING).
Release the throttle twistgrip (4) (Pos.C),
u
let engine idle and then pull in the clutch
lever (5).
Engage the first gear, by pushing the
u
gear lever (6) downwards.
Pull down the side stand (1) to operate
u
the stand switch (3).
The following should happen:
√ the engine must stop;
√ the "side stand down" light "" must
come on.
CAUTION
If the engine does not stop, contact an
aprilia
