The example above, which only holds true for the 12 cpi mode, shows full dots adjacent to each other in the
character cell. The 10 cpi mode allows a gap between adjacent full rows; 17 and 24 cpi allow an overlap of
full rows. The printer cannot print adjacent full and half dots in any single row. Some graphics (double-
density, half-speed) allow adjacent rows to be printed by slowing the print speed by half. Slowing the print
speed allows the time between half and full columns to be the same as the time between full columns in full
speed operation.
The following illustration shows the use of full and half dots as well as descenders to form characters.
