4-1. Before driving
ciency, and charging system per-
formance, when using engine
braking, do not use the transmis-
sion in D. (P.157)
 Vehicles with manual transmis-
sion:
To maintain engine braking effi-
ciency and charging system per-
formance, when using engine
braking, do not use the transmis-

(P.160)
 Due to the added load of the
trailer, your vehicle's engine may
overheat on hot days (at tem-
peratures over 30°C [85°F])
when driving up a long or steep
grade. If the engine coolant tem-
perature gauge indicates over-
heating, immediately turn off the
air conditioning (if in use), pull
your vehicle off the road and stop
in a safe spot. (P.395)
 Always place wheel blocks under
both the vehicle and the trailer
wheels when parking. Apply the
parking brake firmly, and put the
transmission in P (automatic
transmission or CVT) or in the
1st gear or R gear (manual
transmission). Avoid parking on
a slope, but if unavoidable, do so
only after performing the follow-
ing:
1
Apply the brakes and keep them
applied.
2
Have someone place wheel
blocks under both the vehicle
and trailer wheels.
3
When the wheel blocks are in
place, release the brakes slowly
until the blocks absorb the load.
4
Apply the parking brake firmly.
5
Shift into the 1st gear or R gear
(manual transmission) or P
(automatic transmission or CVT)
and turn off the engine.
 When restarting after parking on
a slope:
1
With the transmission in the P
position (automatic transmission
or CVT) or the clutch pedal
(manual transmission)
depressed, start the engine. On
vehicles with automatic trans-
mission or CVT, be sure to keep
the brake pedal depressed.
2
Shift into forward gear or R gear
position (if reversing).
3
If the parking brake is in manual
mode, release the parking
brake. (P.164)
4
Release the brake pedal (vehi-
cles with automatic transmission
or CVT), and slowly pull or back
away from the wheel blocks.
Stop and apply the brakes.
5
Have someone retrieve the
blocks.
