Appendix B
B.2 Maintenance Testing
The UT-4579 is an Up Converter. It translates the input IF frequency from 52 to
88 MHz (or, optionally, from 104 to 176 MHz) to an output RF frequency in the
range from 7900 to 8400 MHz. The IF input level is -35 dBm (typical), and the RF
output level is+10 dBm @ 1 dB compression.
Figure B-2 identifies the UT-4579 front panel features:
• Item 1 – Rack handles. See Chapter 3. INSTALLATION AND SETUP to
review the installation information and to prepare for checkout.
• Item 2 – Sample Test Points. See Sect. B.2.1 for details.
• Front panel operations – See Chapter 6. FRONT PANEL OPERATION for
details about using the LEDs (Item 3), VFD (Item 4) and its menu system,
and the keypad (Item 5).
B.2.1

Sample Test Points

Use these test point connections to monitor the IF input and the RF output:
• The 'IF' BNC female connector provides the IF input.
• The 'RF' Type 'SMA' female connector provides the RF output. An
optional RF LO monitor is available that replaces this RF monitor
connection.
The sample output level for both connectors is -20 dBc nominal.
B.2.2

Troubleshooting

When a fault condition is indicated or a marginal performance tolerance
condition exists, you may use the front panel LEDs and VFD to identify the
specific faults and events:
