5. Event viewer
Provides advisory and progressive-status information and messages during the
ServeRAID configuration process and while monitoring systems with ServeRAID
controllers. Each message appears with a host name from where the event originated,
a time stamp, a date stamp, and an icon that classifies the severity of the event. The
event icons are:
Information: An "i" inside a blue circle
Warning: A "!" inside a yellow triangle
Fatal: An "x" inside a red circle
Warning messages identify potential data-loss situations, and Fatal messages inform
you when a failure has occurred. All Fatal messages will launch an audible alarm.
6. Status bar
Provides three types of information in a resizable panel. The panels contain the
following information:
The left panel displays the managed system status, which is either No problems
detected on any system or Problems detected on one or more systems.
The center panel displays the current tree path.
The right panel displays a progress meter with the label of the currently selected
system and the process that is taking place at the current time.

Using the ServeRAID Manager program in bootable-CD mode

When you start the ServeRAID Manager program from the bootable IBM ServeRAID Support CD, you can
configure your ServeRAID controller configuration before you install your operating system.
You can use the ServeRAID Manager program to configure your ServeRAID controllers, view the
ServeRAID configuration and associated devices, create arrays and logical drives, delete an array,
dynamically increase the logical-drive size, change RAID levels, and much more.

Starting the ServeRAID Manager program

The ServeRAID Manager program runs in two modes: the Configuration mode and the Information mode.
In the Configuration mode, you can create disk arrays, create logical drives, and define your hot-spare
drives. When this mode is active, only a limited set of functions is available from the menu and tool bars.
See "Using the Configuration mode" on page 21 for more information.
In the Information mode, you can view and modify the existing device and configuration information for
your ServeRAID subsystem. When this mode is active, you can use the functions available from the
menu and tool bars to customize settings for your ServeRAID controllers. See "Using the Information
mode" on page 28 for more information.
To start the ServeRAID Manager program, use the following procedure:
1. Insert the IBM ServeRAID Support CD (or the CD that contains the ServeRAID Manager program that
came with your system) into the CD-ROM drive; then, turn on the system.
One of the following screens will appear:
If the configuration program detects unconfigured ServeRAID controllers, the program starts in the
Configuration mode and a screen similar to the following appears.
