Testing the IEEE-488 Port

The procedure below tests IEEE-488 communications between the PC and the 5820A
Calibrator using the GPIBTEST utility. (See Figure 5-3.) This utility is supplied with the
Ziatech ZT-1444A IEEE-488 interface for the PC, which is the recommended interface.
(See Chapter 9.) As a reference, Appendix C shows the correct configuration of the
ZT-1444A jumpers and DIP switches for various installation configurations. A typical
connection is shown below.

Complete the following procedure to test IEEE-488 operation using GPIBTEST.
1. Complete the "IEEE-488 Port Setup Procedure" earlier in this chapter to set up the

If you have not yet created this group and icon, complete the following:
a. In Program Manager, select New from the File menu. Check Program Group,
then click OK. In the Description box, enter GPIB then click OK. This creates
and opens the GPIB group.
b. With the GPIB group still open, select New from the File menu. Check Program
Item, then click OK. In the Description box, enter GPIB Test. In the Command
