8. Recheck alignment with alignment tool. The tool must enter the coupling splines freely. If not,
readjust the front mounts.
9. When alignment is correct, tighten the locknut securely and recheck alignment.
10. Bend tab on adjusting nut down.
11. Remove the alignment tool. If not installing the drive, fold the bell housing dust cover flap into
place and tape it shut for boat shipment. The dust cover flap must be removed before operating
the engine.

Exhaust Connections

All exhaust connections, including those at the exhaust elbow, should be secured with 2 hose
clamps. ABYC standards also specify the use of stainless steel clamps with a minimum 13 mm
(1/2 in.) band width. Do not use spring tension clamps.

Engine Harness Connections

IMPORTANT: The 14‑pin wiring harness can supply a maximum 15 amps of accessory power.
An accessory relay and harness kit is available for higher accessory needs.
1. Route the instrumentation harness to the engine. Do not allow the harness to rub or pinch. If
an extension harness is required, secure the connection properly.
2. Fasten the harnesses to the boat at least every 45.7cm (18 in.) using appropriate fasteners.

Tighten the bottom nut to hold the engine in place. Then release the tension.
