Troubleshooting

Problem
Engine won't start.
Engine rope is difficult to pull, making
engine starting hard.
High engine speed at no load.
Distance not adding properly (measure
mode and speed will be inaccurate.)
Blade doesn't cut tape or provides poor
cuts.

Cause
Engine switch is OFF.
Engine is out of gas.
Engine oil level is low
Spark plug cable is disconnected or
damaged.
Cold engine.
Fuel shutoff lever is OFF.
Oil is seeping into combustion chamber.
Air pressure in the cylinder makes it
harder to pull-start the engine.
Mis-adjusted throttle setting.
Worn engine governor.
Unit is not calibrated.
Pavement is uneven and rear right tire is
not remaining on pavement when apply-
ing tape.
Blade guard is attached.
Blade is dull or worn.
No or low air pressure.
Brake is worn.
Low system pressure.
Troubleshooting
Follow Pressure Relief Procedure,
page 7, before checking or repairing unit.
Turn engine switch ON.
Refill gas tank. Refer to Honda Engines
Owner's Manual.
Try to start engine. Replenish oil, if nec-
essary, see Maintenance, page 40.

Connect spark plug cable or replace
spark plug.
Use choke.
Move lever to ON position.
Remove spark plug. Pull starter 3 to 4
times. Clean or replace spark plug. Start
engine. Keep TapeLazer upright to avoid
oil seepage.
Relieve air pressure, see Pressure
Relief Procedure, page 7.
Reset throttle to 3000 engine RPM at no
load.
Replace or service engine governor.
Refer to Honda Engines Owner's Man-
ual.
Re-calibrate unit. See, Calibration, page
21.
Add weight to the back of the TapeLazer.
There is an area under the spare roller
storage area for this purpose.
Remove segment(s) of application
and/or taping roller(s) to match width of
tape. See Roller Adjustment, page 11.
Remove blade guard from blade.
Replace blade.
Pressurize unit. Verify system is achiev-
ing full pressure. Check for air leaks or
damaged air lines and cylinders. See Air
Cylinder Internal Leaks, page 50
Replace brake.
Check for leaks.
