1. Power Up Key Combinations for Special Modes

These are key combinations that are held down when the unit is turned on. They
buttons specified should be held down until the specified mode appears on the
LCD Display. For example, "B" + "7" means to hold down the buttons labeled "B"
and "7", turn the power on, then release the buttons when the LCD screen
displays the "Warning! Erase/Update on-board ROM" dialog box.
1.1. "P" + "PLAY" : "Privileged" mode.
1.1.1. Service Key and Adaptor Cable: This mode is only available with a
service key plugged into the MIDI ports. The service key is Alesis Part
Number 9-40-0196-A, and is the same service key used for HD24 (RL) and
HD24XR (RL2). This service key has a 9-pin D-Sub ADAT Sync connector
on it (similar to the serial port on a personal computer). An adaptor cable is
necessary to connect this to the Fusion. See section 2.11 for a schematic for
this adaptor cable, or request one from Alesis.
1.1.2. Usage: This mode is used to update the serial number stored in the
Main PCB. This is primarily necessary when the Main PCB must be replaced
in a unit due to a failure. The Serial Number can be entered manually by
navigating to GLOBAL-System-Serial # in Privileged Mode. The Serial
Number can also be entered by using an appropriate barcode scanner
(contact Alesis for details if you are interested in the barcode scanner
solution) when the UI is on the GLOBAL-System-Info or GLOBAL-System-
Serial # page in privileged mode.
1.2. "B" + "7" : ROM Format and Image Update.
1.2.1. CF Card: This mode requires a CF card containing the latest Fusion
ROM Image file ("Fusion_Image_v???.bin"), which must be inserted in the
Fusion's CF Card slot before selecting "Yes" to the on-screen Warning
dialog. The CF Card must be at least 128MB. The latest Fusion Image file
can be found on the Alesis website (www.alesis.com) or by contacting Alesis.
1.2.2. Usage: This mode is used to update the Fusion's internal ROM with
the latest OS Firmware and "ROM" sound set. This should be used
whenever a new Main PCB is installed in a unit, or when requested by the
customer. For more details and step-by-step instructions, see "Fusion User's
Guide: Updating the Fusion's Image", Alesis part number 7-51-0205-A,
available from the Alesis website (www.alesis.com) as file "Update_File.pdf"
or by contacting Alesis.
1.3. "7" + "8" : ROM Format and Image Update.
1.3.1. CF Card or MIDI Sysex: This mode requires a CF card containing a
valid Fusion OS Firmware Image ("Fusion_OS*.bin") or a device capable of
transmitting a large (several megabyte) MIDI Sysex Dump.
1.3.2. Usage: This mode is used to update the OS Firmware or Boot
Firmware without updating the sound set. The full ROM Image update
(above) should be used if available. Only use this method if the latest ROM
Image has already been installed on the unit, and there is a Firmware-only
Image available that is more recent than the ROM Image. If the CF card is
inserted and contains the proper file when power is turned on, the Firmware
will automatically be updated, otherwise the system will wait for a MIDI Sysex
