Reference Information
Electrostatic Charging of Persons
Charging
Every person with a non-conductive connection to the electrical potential of his/her
surroundings can be electrostatically charged.
The figure shows the maximum values for electrostatic voltages to which a person
can be exposed when coming into contact with the materials indicated in the figure.
These values correspond to the specifications of IEC 801-2.
General Protective Measures Against Electrostatic Discharge
Ensure sufficient grounding
Make sure that personnel, working surfaces, and packaging are sufficiently
grounded when working with electrostatic sensitive devices. In this way, you avoid
static charging.
For example, touch the PC housing before performing work in the PC.
Avoid direct contact
You should never touch electrostatic sensitive devices unless it is unavoidable
(e.g., during maintenance work). Hold devices without touching the pins of the
components or the printed conductors. In this way, the energy of electrostatic
discharges cannot reach and damage the sensitive devices.
If you have to carry out measurements on a device, you must discharge your body
before you start the measurement by touching grounded metal objects. Use only
grounded measuring devices.
