CHECKING THE IGNITION TIMING

7. Remove:
S timing mark accessing screw 1
8. Install:
S timing light 1
S inductive tachometer 2
(onto the spark plug lead of cylinder #1)
Timing light
90890-03141
Engine tachometer
90890-03113
9. Check:
S ignition timing
a. Start the engine, warm it up for several min-
utes, and then let it run at the specified en-
gine idling speed.
Engine idling speed
850 950 r/min
b. Check that the pointer a is within the re-
quired firing range b on the pickup coil rotor.
Incorrect firing range ! Check the ignition
system.
NOTE:
The ignition timing is not adjustable.
10. Install:
S all removed parts
NOTE:
For installation, reverse the removal procedure.
Note the following points.
Refer to "ROCKER ARMS, PUSH RODS
AND VALVE LIFTERS" in chapter 5.
