Disassembling the cylinder block

1. Remove the oil pump.
2. Remove the balancer bolts in the
sequence shown.
3. Remove the crankcase bolts in the
sequence shown.
NOTE:
Do not remove the plugs 1 from the crank-
case.
4. Remove the connecting rod bolts and the
connecting rod caps, and then remove
the connecting rod and piston assem-
blies.

Power unit
NOTE:
• Be sure to keep the bearings in the order as
they were removed.
• Mark each piston with an identification
number a of the corresponding cylinder.
• Do not mix the connecting rods and caps.
Keep them organized in their proper
groups.
5. Remove the main bearing cap bolts in
the sequence shown.
6. Remove the crankshaft.

Checking the balancer assembly

1. Check the teeth of the balancer shaft
gear for cracks or wear. Replace the bal-
ancer assembly if necessary.

Checking the piston diameter

1. Measure the piston outside diameter at
the specified measuring point. Replace if
out of specification.
